Congratulations to Troop 303’s newest Eagle Scout, Grant!

Grant recently passed his Eagle Board of Review to earn Scouting’s highest rank.
His journey is historic: as part of the original Lion Scout pilot program, he
progressed through every single rank from Lion to Eagle. By reaching the
pinnacle of Scouting, Grant proudly continues the Legendary tradition of
excellence within the Legendary Troop 303.

ECHO performed at 0630, a bit early for me but still needed to get done. Fluids
came next which included all of the anti-nausea medications to help get through
the chemotherapy. Chemo came at 1500 and was not as bad as I had thought.
Fifteen minutes for one, then an hour for the second. Today it was Mr. Darland
and Mr. McConnell. Kudos to both of them, hospitals tend to make people nervous
because they don't know what to say or do.

To be perfectly honest, just your presence makes all the difference in the
world. We laughed and enjoyed time together, and Mrs. McConnell made me some of
her famous baked oyster crackers and seasonings. We refer to this as Scoutmaster
Crack, just because of how good it is and how fast it disappears.

After chemo, more fluids to keep the Kidneys flushed out and to help move the
chemo along once it has done its job. Release day is scheduled for Friday,
though given other delays we will wait and see.

A bit chaotic as many people and appointments have to line up just to be a good
day. There was some misalignment, but in the end I got situated in my room, had
a PICC line inserted (this goes into a bigger artery/vein for easier access to
the heart's pumping acting). Chemotherapy needs to be delivered into the big A/V
areas so it does not get stuck in the smaller areas. This ensure better delivery
to where it is needed. Then rest, as chemotherapy could not begin before the
ECHO of the heart to make sure it was healthy and able to receive the chemo.

It was awesome to see Mr. Beasley and to pray with him over me. Scouts, you
truly know who cares for you when your on a tough road. We got to talk about the
journey so far and even remembered several Scouting events and had a good laugh.
Mr. Burgeson stopped by as well and got to hear the story about why we are the
Legendary Troop 303, and maybe some of the "I'm over it!" guy from Morgan Monroe
outing years ago. Remember to be a good story teller, it will make those
conversations around the campfire so entertaining.

Many honors were handed out, including a number of rank-ups and several merit
badges! Lots of parents were called up to be pinned by their Scout!

In addition to the awards, Troop 331 provided entertainment in the form of songs
and skits. Afterwards, a delicious array of snacks were quickly gobbled up by
those in attendance.

Congrats to all of the Scouts who earned awards! Be sure to look through the

The Scouts of the Legendary Troop 303 attended the 2026 Western Division Spring
Camporee this past weekend.

With a theme of Explore the Skies, the Scouts were able to work on the Astronomy
and Weather merit badges. The highlight of the Astronomy merit badge was the
opportunity to view celestial objects through some high powered telescopes
borrowed from Indiana State University.

On Saturday night, at the Order of the Arrow callout out ceremony, Dylan D, Jack
S, and Myles S were all called out. Order of the Arrow is Scouting's nationwide
honor society and represents that these Scouts are looked up to by their fellow
troop mates. They will have the opportunity to go through Ordeal and become
members of the Order of the Arrow. Congrats to these Scouts!

For the adults attending, there was the opportunity to take Introduction to
Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS) training. IOLS is a hands-on, outdoor training
for leaders to gain confidence in camping, cooking, fire safety, orienteering,
and knots. Ben S took part in this training and is now fully trained.

Overall, a great weekend was had by all who attended and the troop looks forward
to future adventures!
